2009-09-14RowellAs of Sept. 2009, it's still a dry place for classics in the entire Wildwood district!
2006-09-01RowellVery, VERY dry place to even find a classic arcade other than the common ones (class of '81, Super Off Road, Centipede/Millipede/Missile Command). Recommendation: Ocean City!
2004-10-01JoeHere's yet another arcade I made another visit to this summer, but despite being the best arcade in Wildwood, it has many downsides. The games they have here seem to be in better shape than they were last summer, but I did notice a few games (I can't remember which ones) not working too good, or at all, and it's still amazing that most, if not all of the games they have here are at least 50 cents, which is a tragedy. The biggest downfall about this arcade I feel is the owner who I happened to run into the last time I came here, and is a real jerk. Those of you who have visited this arcade before who may have ran into him should know why he is such a loser, and if you seem him, get out at all costs! Despite the downfalls I mentioned, I still think this is the #1 arcade in Wildwood (even though that's not saying a whole lot in my opinion), and at least it's clean with an okay atmosphere, and has it's share of fine classics as you see. I still recommended this arcade to anyone who visits Wildwood, despite it's many flaws. A change of ownership, and better maintaining of it's games sure wouldn't hurt it though!
2003-09-04JoeOkay. Now that this location has been fully updated I'll post my full review on it. As you can pretty much see, this is by far the best arcade there is in Wildwood (that I know of) for classic games (even though that's really not saying much, since almost all of the other arcades there only seem to have new games), and is worth a visit in my opinion. However this arcade contains the main problem that most arcades with many classics have, which is that most of the games here are not in very good shape. A good majority of the old games here either do not work, or have many of the common ailments that most classics have these days (i.e. games with messed up colors/screens, faulty controls, and bad, or no sound), and it's a shame to see so many good classics go to waste. Due to the sad state most of these games are in, the truth is that this arcade really has no more than about ten or so playable classics in it, and another mistake is that most (if not all) of the old games at this location are 50 cents, which there is just no excuse for, due to the terrible shape that a lot of the games here are in. As I mentioned before, if you're in Wildwood looking for an arcade with some decent classics (and a good mix of some newer games too), then this is the spot to be, but don't say that I didn't warn you! It's sad to see how much people who own arcades really don't seem to care what shape their games are in, and it would help a whole lot if more arcade owners would value their games more than they actually do. Oh well.
2003-07-17JoeI just went back here today, and they have added some more classics. I can now confirm that All American Football, and Donkey Kong are no longer here, but they do have a lot of classic games now, which is a good thing. I'll post a full review of this place once it's updated. Stay tuned!
2002-11-07JoeThis place(assuming it's the same one I'm thinking of)is actually called the Boardwalk Mall II arcade. I first visited this place in the summer of 2001 and they had a lot of pretty good classic games here then. When I went back this year though it was a completely different story because they got rid of most of their classics and replaced them with those typical boring rip off new games that we see in almost every other arcade. I can't remember exactly every classic game they have now but I do know that at least one of the two games seen on this list (Donkey Kong) is gone and think All American Football is gone too but I'm not 100% sure. The classic games they have here that I remember them having last time I came here are Asteroids Deluxe,Mario Bros,Ms.Pac-Man,Pac-Man,The Simpsons, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. That's all I can remember at this point. I know they have a few more classics not mentioned but not a whole lot more. If I'm able to remember any other ones they have I'll post them up. Unfortunately I won't be coming back here until next summer at least so I won't be able to submit a full list of the classic games they have for a while. It's too bad that this place like many other arcades ends up getting rid of their good classic games and replaces them with those huge expensive new games that most people do not play. This is still however in my opinion the best arcade on the Wildwood Boardwalk when it comes to having good classic games but it's not nearly as good now as it was when I first visited and it's probably not going to be getting any better any time soon, unless the person who runs this place realizes that it's better for arcades to have more classics rather then replacing them with new games.
2002-11-07JoeJust a quick corrention I wanted to make about the games they have at this place. Now that I put some more thought into it I don't think they had an Asteriods Deluxe game here, rather it was actually a Blasteriods game they had instead of that one. I'm not completely sure about this but I think that's the case. I'm still not able to remember what other games they do and don't have and since it's been a few months since I was last here it's kind of difficult to remember every classic game they had (although I do remember for sure that the other games I listed were here last time I checked). Sorry for any confusion this may have caused. We'll know for sure what classic games this place has next summer after I visit it again.
